Wednesday April 27, 2011(Tornado)

When the tornado hit on April 27 it was devastating.  All of the stuff that happened that day was awful! I was watching the news and I didn’t really think it was going to be that bad, but I was wrong. We were watching the news on T.V. and they were showing the video of the tornado going through Cullman. My aunt lives in Cullman and it went right through her area. We were trying to get a hold of her but there was no service at all. So we had to drive to town to get service we sat in Home Depot parking lot because they had service. Well we found out it was going to get real bad again so we went back home and our power was out. Well we got scared so we just went down to our basement and sat there.  We were looking outside and I live like in a hole In the woods basically so all of our trees were bending all the way over and snapping right back up cause the wind was so hard.  I was surprised that not one tree fell.  There were so many tornados that day it was outrageous they are still trying to decide how many there were. After all the tornados there was a lot of people dead I don’t know the exact number but what I heard was there were 400 dead and like 1500 missing.  I had no idea a tornado could do that much damage it was a F5 tornado and the winds were 100 to 150 miles per hour. Everything was messed up. The city off Jasper got very lucky that we didn’t get it as bad as some of the other cities.  We were out of power for days. All of our food spoiled; there was no gas it was kind of like a Black out.  One gas station got gas and the line was backed up for 2 miles.  We weren’t able to communicate with anybody because the towers were messed up, but they finally got fixed.  We got power back Friday night at 5:00.  I have never been in anything like this it was so scary.  One of my friends said that her moms friend said that he knew a guy were he had to pull his daughter and wife out of a tree both dead with body parts snapped off.  I know a lot of people that there houses got destroyed and they had nowhere to go. People were living with the clothes on there back like there housecoat.  Mobile homes were destroyed too there was nothing left of them.  When we went to eat at Birmingham Thursday night after the tornado, our waiter was upset cause he lives in Tuscaloosa on of the cities that got hit hard and he said he had 9 family members missing. My family and I got very lucky. April 27, 2011 tornado was the deadliest tornados since 1925.
